On this day in music history: April 30, 1983

by Jeff Harris – “Beat It” by Michael Jackson hits #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 3 weeks. One of the last songs completed for “Thriller”, guitarist Eddie Van Halen will be brought in to record the searing solo during the last night of recording. “Beat It” will win Jackson two Grammy Awards including Record Of The Year.
